Crack the Books – Accounting for Non-Accountants

In this book, chartered accountant June Menton gives practical advice on keeping basic financial records and takes you through financial control, reporting and preparing accounts for small businesses.

Menton is the financial controller of the Irish Sports Council and holds a bachelor’s degree in business and legal studies from University College Dublin.

Rather than being daunted by getting on top of the financials all of a sudden, this book shows you how to grasp things in chunks and absorb them. Then you can use Crack the Books as a reference when you needed. As well as showing you what to do with sample documents, etc, this book also explains concepts and methodologies in clear terms. Each section is well divided up with graphics, boxes and bullet points so you don’t get bogged down. There are 30 different, relatively short, sections.

One of the best things about this book is the practical examples. The imaginary business owner ‘John’ appears several times, making various transactions, etc, which makes the whole area of book-keeping more accessible.
