Having started out in a spare room in an apartment in Galway in 2004, Tara Dalrymple has expanded her business Busy Lizzie to Dublin, Wicklow, Cork and Limerick, resulting in a 200pc increase in turnover.
Busy Lizzie offers a variety of services such as a virtual personal assistant, de-cluttering and corporate concierges to businesses and personal services such as pet minding, gardening and errand-running to individuals.
Described as a lifestyle management business, the overall idea is to provide people with time-saving services, so they can be freed up to do other things.
“Busy Lizzie was a business idea that I brought over with me from the UK five years ago. I undertook a year’s market research before I launched the company, but having come from a family who all work for themselves I knew that my future too lay in being self employed,” says Dalrymple.
“Ever the optimist, I put myself forward for the BPW Business Woman of the Year after only four months of trading and won it in 2005.”
With the award under her belt Dalrymple stormed ahead, working on sales campaigns, revamping the website and creating strategic partnerships and alliances.
Since moving to Galway the company has been an active member of the business and social community through women’s networking and general business groups. Dalrymple has been on BPW and Network committees as well as Galway Dyslexia Society, Special Olympics and Chernobyl Fund committees.
“I endorse the work-life balance my company provides by working from home and educating Irish women through my monthly podcast on how they too can achieve a healthy balance between work and home,” says Dalrymple.
The company takes part in events for the annual work-life balance day on 1 March and Dalrymple is an advisor for graduates for her alumni society who are looking for assistance on setting up their own companies.
