A strategy for the City and County Enterprise Boards (CEB) network has been published, aimed at driving entrepreneurship and a small business sector that is competitive, vibrant, sustainable and innovative.
The strategy states that it is imperative previous levels of resources be retained — €34 million per annum – to enable to CEB network to deliver on the actions and targets identified. It also recommends that a minimum annual incremental increase of 10pc per annum over the next five years be provided.
Among the strategy’s primary actions is the provision of a nationally branded and fully resourced ‘First Point of Contact’ business information, advice and referral system to anyone interested in starting a business.
It proposes the provision of “timely and meaningful” financial assistance to start-ups and the ongoing local delivery and promotion of the nationally branded Start Your Own Business programme.
Also of interest to start-ups is the proposed continuation and expansion of the CEB Network mentoring schemes to local businesses – the plan is to provide specialist mentoring support to 1,500 start-ups over the next five years.
In the same timeframe, the CEB Network plans to deliver 200 Start Your Own Business programmes a year with 2,500 intending entrepreneurs attending and 3,500 ‘one-to-one business advisory sessions for start-ups. It aims to provide financial support to 500 start-ups.
