Dublin-based art school Artzone set up by Gillian Blaney-Shorte has launched a new party service – DIY art parties for children.
Specialising in visual art education for children from five to 17 years, Artzone was established by the secondary school art teacher seven years ago. It employs only qualified art teachers and runs art classes in schools and parish centres in Leinster throughout the school year and art camps for students during school holidays.
DIY Art Parties enable parents to organise and run a professional art party for their children and friends without the cost and inconvenience of bringing children's entertainers to their home.
The DIY Art Parties packs from Artzone cater for a minimum of 12 children. Each pack includes a detailed step-by-step graphical guide for parents, all art equipment required for the party and access to a helpline service for parents to talk to qualified art teachers to clarify any queries.
Artzone is currently offering DIY Art Parties for different age groups with three different themes – Mask Making Parties, Fashion Collage Parties and Fabric Bag Painting Parties.
The concept for the DIY art parties came about as a result of a large number of enquiries from parents to Artzone.
“Many parents would like to organise their own art party for children but they didn’t have the confidence to do so or were unable to find the range of materials. We provide them with everything they need to run a successful party. It is educational and fun and most importantly the children proudly leave with a piece of artwork that they created themselves,” says Gillian Blaney-Shorte.
A DIY Art Party for children costs from €90 for a minimum of 12 attendees. “In the current economic climate the DIY parties are also proving popular as they are far less expensive than hiring a professional entertainer to come to your home,” adds Blaney-Shorte.
In 2009 Artzone launched its primary school art enrichment programme where Artzone works with a number of progressive primary schools demystifying the art curriculum, providing teacher training, mentoring, art teacher in residence projects and art fundays.
“In 2010 Artzone will expand its primary schools art enrichment programme, expand geographically and explore franchise and partnership models to extend our reach beyond Leinster,” says Blaney-Shorte.
