A transition year mini-company from Co Kildare has come up with an innovative gadget that makes it easier for people to put keys on a key ring without damaging nails or fingers.

Called Key-Z P-Z (pronounced kee-zee pee-zee) the key ring opener works by simply placing it between the metal rings of a key ring and twisting it.

“There is no other product like our Key-Z P-Z out there on the market. The product is beneficial to people from all walks of life. Those with arthritis have been proven to find this product useful, and many more such as women who do not want to chip or damage nails, those with short nails, those who struggle in general when opening key-rings and even those with Parkinson's Disease,” explains Grainne Clarke of Key-Z P-Z, which was set up in St Wolston’s Community School, Celbridge, Co Kildare.

The product comes in a range of colours, and retails at €2. The mini-company has already had a stand at an exhibition and presented to potential investors. While it did not secure investment, the idea was endorsed and supported by the panel.

Key-Z P-Z has looked into distributing into nail bars, beauty salons and key cutting outlets. “We plan to get this business up and running over the summer and continue our success,” said Clarke.
