The winners of the county final of the South Dublin Student Enterprise Awards have been announced with 16 different prizes being given out to enterprising young people at an event in Tallaght.

The three main category winners were: D.J. Scents from Colaiste de hÍde in Tallaght (junior category); Elite Sports from the King’s Hospital in Palmerstown (intermediate category) and Presto from Coláiste Éanna in Ballyroan (senior category).

All three main category winners have been chosen to represent South Dublin at the National Student Enterprise Awards in Croke Park on 27 April.

Enterprising School of the Year Award

Meanwhile, the Enterprising School of the Year Award, the Maurice O’ Connell Perpetual Trophy, went to St Joseph’s College in Lucan. Herbalicious from Firhouse Community College won the Corporate Social Responsibility Award, Kestrel Woodcraft from Coláiste Éanna won the Manufacturing/Craftsmanship Award and Tasty Treats, also from Coláiste Éanna, won the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award.

Congratulating the winners, Loman O’ Byrne, CEO of the South Dublin County Enterprise Board, said: “All our finalists are excellent ambassadors for the student enterprise programme. Judging by their entrepreneurial ideas and business instincts demonstrated at our County Final, I think we’re looking at the next generation of Irish entrepreneurs.”

The awards showcased the work of 43 different student enterprises represented by 150 secondary school entrepreneurs from 11 local schools.

Organised by the South Dublin County Enterprise Board, and supported by ITT Dublin, Partas and the Echo Group, over 700 students have been involved in the programme since last September.
