A programme called ‘Going for Growth’ has been launched, which will introduce 60 enterprising women to powerful role models to help them grow their businesses, free of charge.
Funded by the European Social Fund, Enterprise Ireland, the Equality for Women Measure, Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform, the programme is made up of eight roundtable sessions, facilitated and led by a number of experienced female entrepreneurs.
The sessions are designed to foster company development through structured, agenda-led discussion within the group about various aspects of business expansion and growth.
Going for Growth is the brainchild of Paula Fitzsimons, who co-ordinates the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) in Ireland.
“The idea came to me from a recognition that while women in Ireland are starting new businesses at the rate of about 800 a month, as noted in the GEM, there is a need to move beyond just starting into growing. The mission in Going for Growth is to support women entrepreneurs to achieve their growth ambitions and to get more women entrepreneurs into a growth frame of mind.”
Over 75pc of the participants in the 2007/2008 pilot programme said the Going for Growth sessions had translated into significant practical change within their businesses.
