What areas does the finance function cover?

The basic areas that I believe need to be covered by the finance function are:

Raising capital and funding, initially and on an ongoing basis in order to support the business operations
Advising which projects are best suited to maximise the available business resources, taking into account the potential returns and the risks involved
Managing the ongoing cashflow requirements of the business and determining the working capital needs, whilst operating in the best interests of the shareholders
Ensuring that the business is operated in an ethical manner and that all statutory reporting requirements are adhered to, and that the business and shareholders are protected in this regard.
